2019 Bible Conference

Homeward Bound

This is not a marriage conference, though we will talk about marriage. And this is not a family life conference, though we will talk about family life. Rather, this conference is about death.

As Solomon wrote "The day of death is better than the day that one is born" (Ecc. 7:1). Better? Yes, really better!! Based on his families' own experience, with rich insights from puritans William Perkins and Richard Steele, Dr Hartman brings this truth to life.

If your heart thirsts for real comfort from a brother who has found God faithful in the valley of death's shadow, then come bolster your faith at this conference.

Ed & Emily Hartman

Ed and Emily’s life together has been anything but ordinary. After Ed lost his first wife to cancer, leaving him with four young children to raise, he hired Emily to be their nanny, and then took her off payroll and married her. They began their journey together in Kosciusko, MS where Ed was the senior minister of First Presbyterian Church, then spent almost a decade in Brasov, Romania, leading a church planting team for Mission to the World.

Since leaving Romania, they continue to invest in church planting and missions as they work together in leadership development and renewal with pastors, church leaders, church planters, missionaries and their wives. They live in Jackson, Mississippi where Ed is the Minister of Mission and Outreach at First Presbyterian Church, and Emily works with Parakaleo (a ministry to the wives of church planters), coaching, training and working toward leadership development.

Together, they’ve lived the gospel reality that our stories are both broken and beautiful, and they delight in helping couples look to Jesus as they wrestle through this reality in their own lives. Twenty-two years later, life is still complicated, crazy, and yet wonderful, as they continue following Jesus on the winding path of marriage and life in ministry.

They now enjoy the “party of two” (empty nest), which includes lots of travel together, eating whatever they want for dinner, and a lot less laundry. They also enjoy welcoming their four children, their spouses, and their four precious grandchildren into their home and lives.

Ed is a graduate of Columbia International University; Reformed Theological Seminary (MDiv); and Westminster Seminary in California (DMin). Emily is a graduate of the University of Mississippi.
